Chair recruitment

ICB Chair Recruitment Graphic - decorative

NHS West Yorkshire ICB is a partnership led organisation committed to improving health outcomes for 2.4 million people across Bradford District and Craven, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds, and Wakefield District. We’ve made significant progress through collaboration and are nationally recognised for our innovative practices. But we know there’s more to do; especially in tackling inequalities and maximising the impact of our investments as a strategic commissioner.

We are seeking a visionary Chair to lead our Unitary Board, ensuring robust governance, risk management, strategic oversight, and effective deployment of NHS resources. Independent of all stakeholders and accountable to NHS England’s Regional Director, you’ll champion integrity, diversity, partnership, and community-focused outcomes aligned with Fit for the Future (the new NHS 10-Year Plan).

NHS experience is not essential; you do need to be an inclusive, politically astute system leader with a strong and credible track record in public service transformation. You’ll bring broad, board-level governance expertise, a deep commitment to social justice, and the ability to both unite stakeholders across sectors; from regulators, local government and VCSEs to business and community leaders and the West Yorkshire Mayor.

We are committed to increasing the diversity of our leadership so that it is representative of the population we serve in West Yorkshire and particularly welcome applications from people with a disability, those who identify as LGBTQ+ and people from an ethnically diverse background.

This is an exceptional opportunity to shape the future of health and care and to reduce inequalities in West Yorkshire.

How to Apply

  • Please submit an up to date copy of your CV, along with a Supporting Statement that addresses the criteria set out in the person specification, using examples to demonstrate how you meet the essential requirements.
  • A completed fit and proper person form – the template can be downloaded from the same place as the job description.
  • Detail any employment or education gaps.
  • You should provide the names, positions, organisations, and contact details for your referees, which must be your line managers and include your current and most recent employer. The referees should cover at least two roles as the minimum. Please note, should you be appointed, you will be required to provide references covering your last 6 years of employment as per the new NHS Fit and Proper Person regulations. Where there have been gaps in employment, this six year period will be extended accordingly. Referees will only be contacted for those proceeding to the final stage - we will always gain your permission before we contact referees.
  • Let us know any difficulty you may have with the indicative timetable.
  • Check that your contact details are correct before you submit.

Once you have submitted your application, you will receive an automated email to confirm that you have applied. If you do not receive this email, please make contact with GatenbySanderson.
